TOPIC: Canal du Centre faulty dangerous Ecluse.

Canal du Centre faulty dangerous Ecluse. 14 Sep 2017 20:44 #95042

We travelled up here last week with no problem - so must be recent damage. I've not heard of anyone expecting to be accompanied by a travelling lockkeeper on the Centre - I'm just pleased when I get an answer from the intercom on the inevitable and fairly regular calls one has to make to report getting stuck again! Bon continuation!

Anyone travelling along the Canal du Centre please be aware at Ecluse No. 2 Charmois (Montchanin ), this is a rather turbulent 4.78m deep lock with floating bollards (supposedly) , one of the floating bollards is stuck fast in the up position with a large strip of torn metal jutting out on the bottom edge, we are supposed to have a VNF guy travelling with us as this is in a series of locks but no sign of him until lock No.1 where we pointed out the problem, he just shrugged his shoulders and said he knew of the problem. This issue here is if like ourselves travelling upstream the only way to attach a forward line was to climb an extremely slippy overgrown ladder to attach a line, if the lock keeper was aware why didn't he notify us or why didn't he assist us with a line and anyone traveling down stream will damage the side of the boat as the metal is just below the water surface and also you will expect the bollard to lower when the lock drains.
