After a court decision forces Kees Cornelissen to offer our boat on 18.9.2019, new attempts are made to not have to keep the deadline. Especially the refusal to install the engine and generator offered by the shipyard and finally ordered by us causes many question marks. We have described it in detail on our website: www.my-caro.ch/?page_id=73803 . The actions of Kees Cornelissen, owner of Cornelissen Shipyards International and co-owner of Euroship Services (he owns the company together with his son Glenn) are unparalleled.

We are dismayed to hear, via this forum post, that yet another customer is having legal problems with Euroship. We have another court date with Kees Cornelissen Friday December 6, 2019. All we wanted was a canal boat. We certainly never anticipated encountering such troubles in accomplishing this dream. We signed a contract and then watched as it was macerated by this man. He transformed from a somewhat genial guy prior to the contract signing to an angry, threatening and frightening man afterwards. We can only warn people to stay away.
We had hoped that our post would be enough to raise warning flags to prospective customers. Because we could locate no negative postings on the European internet about this man and his company other potential customers may find themselves in the same boat. No pun intended!

Before you build a boat thoroughly vet the builder and any post on the DBA . Hire a lawyer to go through the contract in minute detail. Hire a well-established and highly recommended boat surveyor before you move forward. With both a good lawyer and an reputable surveyor you may stand a chance against this man. The old adage Be Prepared is warranted.

I still can't imagine why someone with seemingly so much experience is unable to meet delivery deadlines. It must be totally unsatisfactory to be constantly at odds with your own customers. Litigation ultimately costs money.

Really saddening to hear of another unsatisfactory experience with ES.
Such a shame as his craft look the business out on the waterways and his technical design technique makes for fairly speedy construction of the hull.
We just bought the flat pack kit but even so the 5 month timescale from first weld to a basic sailaway hull was hopelessly optimistic and it was just about managed a year later before the 2nd summer shut down.

Sorry to hear about your experience. We had our barge ASLAUG built in 2006 and many of the same problems. See also JENAL, with law cases over several years. A pity that you did not check DBA before, then you would have been warned. Good luck anyway !

We sadly seem to follow in your footsteps. Unfortunately we found your post too late. Euroship Services/Kees Cornelissen Shipyards is repeating with us exactly what they did with you. If you would like to read your story that is ours now too you'll find it on our blog. And the story goes on.

This post is to inform the DBA community that the court procedure with Euroship Service.nl is still ongoing and that ES must deliver proof for all the extra work he claims, and various other issues. It now has become clear that the boat was never insured until a few weeks weeks before we gained possession, despite the contract wording that is was. We will also post when the next court date is set.

Thank you, Charles. One important thing we have learned is to check a company's history deeply. Sometimes when you search on the Internet there are items that have been removed, especially here in Europe since this ruling in May of 2014. "The EC ruled that you can ask for Google to stop linking to anything that's "inadequate, irrelevant or no longer relevant, or excessive in relation to the purposes for which they were processed." We can only say to potential customers; Check with knowledgeable people in the DBA, it is a mine of good information.

I had Maximilian designed and the steel cut by Kees... but the n had it delivered on 2 low loaders to Lowestoft and welded there. I had/have no complaints and Max has now been bought I’m told by her third owners. The design was great. Kees is now in court again being sued by purchasers. This is not the first time this has happened. ( I am being very careful here). Anyone considering a euroships hull needs to look at the company’s history. C

We wish you good luck with the court case. This is a most unnerving experience, and we are sad to hear of so many new-build owners who have had the same bad experience as we had. The boats look great, but the building process is a challenge, and the subsequent harrowing fight is not pleasant.

For those of you that have followed our situation with Euroship and Kees Cornelissen, we do attend Dutch Court in Arnhem tomorrow, represented by our lawyer Joris Klompé. Euroship/Kees Cornelissen will be represented by lawyer Hommerson. We do feel that we have helpful and valuable information to share with anyone considering the purchase of a new build barge type boat in the Netherlands and will be happy to share our experience. If you have questions you are free to contact us.

John,

I think you went past me today (won't mention where in case anyone is tracking you, although many might guess) and all I can say, if it is any consolation (and not intended in any way as supportive of Euroships), is that you have a most attractive boat.

John,

Sad to hear of your woes.

In my warship building and refitting experience any extras and additions, consequent to the original  contract, were always pretty pricey.

The extras I specified with Triton Jachten, where I had my plate kit built, we're certainly more than had I specified the items on the original contract.

My contract itself was simplicity simplified. An A4 page and a half listing everything to be done and what kit to fit.  As the build was going to continue over winter, which I was happy with, the extras to the original contract were:

Spray foam throughout - still cheaper than having it done in UK.
Lay all flooring
Built aft cabin - so we had a more comfortable delivery voyage. Original plan was for tent on some boards!
Shower tiling
Supply multitude of 18 and 9mm ply sheets.

Otherwise, the price paid was exactly the contract plus these extras.

Overall, a very good job done by Triton and a great friendship with a family firm.

I'd like to give an alternative view of Euroship Services from our experience, which was perfectly satisfactory. They designed and cut the steel plates for our 50 ft replica tjalk and did exactly what they said they would do and we were delighted with the result. I found Kees Cornelissen to be extremely knowledgeable and talented at barge design, flexible in meeting our stated requirements, and perfectly business-like on the financial side of things. We had Euroships do what they were best at. I believe he subcontracts out the construction of his barges and that may be where things went wrong for some others. I would thoroughly recommend anyone to go to Euroships if they want a really good hull design that takes account of what the user wants and how it will eventually be fitted out.

We similarly got the steel kit (for a Tjalk) from Kees and had it built in the UK and it all went together very well, although a Tjalk is quite demanding on the welder!

Hi I bought Maximillian in kit form from Kees and had the cut steel delivered to the uk. I had no problems and the steel went together perfectly. I know others have had a less happy experience. Charlie
