Hi Paul
She is a sleek yacht and looks pretty comfortable inside. Sailing wise, I can really only compare her to a 39 ft ketch I helped sail from Swanage to Paris about 30 years ago. Before that it was dinghies as a kid! Re lead-acid on Stanton Rose, since the seller was obliged to replace the duff Trojans, I went for similar because I had not thought it out yet.

Used to have a stunning 38’ Regina yacht photos here www.cryachts.net/regina-38/
This particular crossing was rather lumpy.
Wife never keen unless on a beam reach in a F3 under clear skies. We also now have 4 dogs (yep, “4”) so decided to try barging. Bought a 17m Euroship winter 16/17 and it works well for all of us.
Good luck with your batteries (I’ve just changed to Lithiums)

I had Rolls batteries in a previous life and two of the six failed after a particularly nasty (aka “brutal”) crossing of Biscay. They were quite new (<2 years) and I wasn’t happy to put two new into an existing system so negotiated a discount on replacing the other 4. Comes down to the disty, probably. Having said all that, I did like the batteries and like you, never went below a DoD of 50%.

Well done - unusually your battery supplier has honoured their warranty.

If your other batteries show signs of impact damage you have a strong claim.

Do check charg8ng voltages on the replacment batteries.

During its previous ownership, my vessel allegedly got through 4 sets of lead-acid batteries in 10 years. When I took possession of her, most of the current set of 16 off Trojan 6 volts (non specified 4 strings of 4) were leaking, had raised cases and were getting hot to touch! The previous owner agreed to replace them with 12 new Rolls FS-260s, and the new set were duly installed and wired in 3 strings. At the same time a Victron battery monitor was fitted and soon afterwards I had a Mastervolt trained tech come and set up the Mastervolt Mass Combi 4000/24-120 inverter charger. After an initial long charge by generator, they continued to be charged by shore power for about 7 weeks.

Then at the beginning of April the ship was moved and all charging since has been via solar and generator only. Sadly, I believed in my expensive new battery monitor and did not think to measure the SGs. I was puzzled as to why the charger never seemed to go into float, and spoke several times to the Mastervolt guy, who suggested re-adjusting the charging parameters to avoid over-cooking the new batteries! It was not until I noticed that at least four of the new set were leaking acid that I thought to get out the hydrometer. Shock-horror! They were all deep in the red, and prolonged charging can now barely get them into the green. To begin with, the charger had finally gone into float with all still in the red. I had been so careful to never let them get anywhere near 50% on the battery monitor, but of course it could never have been synched.

The supplier has now agreed to replace the leaking ones with new, and has suggested a charge/discharge routine over several days on shore power somewhere to bring the damaged ones up to a condition where they could be connected in to the new arrivals. Ideally, when I take them all out and put them on the dockside, I will find that they are all leaking! Then the supplier will be obliged to replace the lot.

So my question is, has anyone out there had new batteries leak acid? I have just been told that the shipyard team who installed them noticed some acid on the base of the plastic sheeting that came with the shipping pallet. I guess if some or all had all been dropped on the pallet somewhere between the Canadian factory and the point of delivery - they might leak. Yet there was no obvious damage when they were unpacked. Any suggestions?
