Of course it is in the KB! - but as a professional skipper needs to be involved (over 24m) he/she should advise.

barges.org/knowledgebase/cruising/taking-a-barge-to-sea

Or go direct to MGN 538

PS Keith Willard NG Marine or Stefan Fritz AC Marine - see Suppliers Directory

You don't need a barge to join - a dream of boating in Europe will do'. See www.barges.org

The ship will need to comply with those MCA Merchant Shipping regs applicable to a 25 metre vessel (LSA etc.) in all waters (if British flagged) or in UK territorial waters if otherwise flagged. Perhaps in the Knowledge Base? If NL flagged and sailing from NL waters then NL regs might apply but that is beyond my knowledge. Best to steam out of Nieuwpoort BE rather than the Maas!

Hello Martin,

The Netherlands Inland CVV only apples inland. No particular certification is required for a channel crossing but as Tim says a professional skipper and appropriate insurance. Amlin (was HKJ) have an on-line application for DBA members - barges.org/members/members-insurance/member-insurance-application . Both GJW and Amlin will have a specific set of requirements for a channel crossing .

He will need a professional skipper for the crossing, plus, of course, insurance. I would suggest a phone call to one of the UK insurers......I use GJW who are very helpful, but there are of course others available.

They will tell him exactly what their requirements are in respect of skipper's qualifications, equipment, weather conditions, etc.
Good luck
Tim

Dutch Barges are only built in the Netherlands. Anywhere else is something else.

Our rivets are real not fake!

Hi
A British purchaser wants to transfer a 25m barge with Netherlands CVV (no see going allowed) from Netherland to London. over the channel. How can he manage it? How can he get an insurance? Has anybody experience?
