I wrote last night to Julia Simpson (Area Director) and team,
'Hello Vicky, Julia and Barry,
I am astounded to receive such a significant change to your programme with such little notice - delaying the Molesley work to the New Year and extending its length.
We have delayed our barge docking plans because it would have been risky to have gone down to the Tideway and return before 30 October.. We had agreed with the yard to change our booking to January - we would now be trapped away from our mooring for three months.
Perhaps it would have been better to leave the work for another year - or dropped some of the other less urgent work? For example the Barge Lock work does not affect navigation and could be done later in the year.
Why has the programme had to be changed, why such a sudden announcement without warning, and late on a Friday afternoon!! '
I doubt it will result in any significant re-think by EA - but it is still worth protesting and I will raise at the next EA meeting on 13 November
EA have effectively shut off access to the Thames from the Tideway and the K&A for nearly 6 months in each case.
due to operational and resource issues, it has been necessary to put back the start date for the re-sheeting of the gates at Molesey Lock from 30 October 2017 to 8 January 2018. We apologise for the lateness in this notification which was unavoidable.
