Another extension of the stoppage on the Canal du Nivernais between pk 164,980 (écluse 76 VS de Bélombre) and pk 170.620 (écluse 79VS d'Augy) has been announced. Closed to navigation until June 1st, inclusive. Avis à la Batellerie:

Translation:

Due to the severe weather that affected the Yonne at the beginning of the year, the weir of the dam de Vaux was
significantly damaged making it impossible to open to navigation. Emergency works consisting of
rebuilding this weir have been undertaken and have been subject to a first extension of stoppage until
Friday, March 30, 2018 included.
A second extension was deemed necessary until 15 May 2018. In view of the technical difficulties
encountered by the company to carry out the work in a period of sustained flow. It is necessary to
to extend stoppage again on this section until 01 June 2018 inclusive.

The word in Auxerre is now mid-May. The Yonne is still running high and fast with only one barge moving over Easter.

The rumour about a weir breach just south of Auxerre is, apparently, not true.....so just the one piece of work to be completed, it would seem.

Anyone wishing to make an early start to their boating on the Canal du Nivernais just outside Auxerre could be disappointed. VNF have just announced the stoppage due to end on the 19th March will now not end before the 30th March for a 5km section, and possibly even later. Worst case mid May. Attached is the avis à la batellerie and they say they will update with further avis a.s.a.p.
