ES-TRIN has been updated and it is now necessary for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to update its notices on the derogation of ES-TRIN in UK waters.

MSN 1879 implements Directive (EU) 2016/1629 and recognises the creation of CESNI ( www.cesni.eu/en ) as the EU / Rhine Commission body responsible for reviewing and updating the technical requirements, confirms the RYA as the UK body responsible for issuing UK numbers and confirms that vessels operating solely in UK waters do not need certification.

MSN 1880 contains ES-TRIN 2017-1 for information of operators wishing to gain certification of their vessels for use in mainland inland waterways

MSN 1881 covers the technical inspection requirements of ES-TRIN

MSN 1894 covers the reciprocal recognition of licences for small commercial vessels – under 20m length or under 100 CUM. It does not apply to recreational vessels

MCA consulted on these issues in October last year. I have attached both the questions and our response and the subsequent response from MCA to everyone who replied.

You don't need a barge to join - a dream of boating in Europe will do'. See www.barges.org
