TOPIC: Navigating in poor visibility - a seasonal reminder

Navigating in poor visibility - a seasonal reminder 04 Nov 2019 18:29 #111145

I would rather see where I'm 'lying down!.

On Saturday while buoy-hopping on the Randmeren I lost all visibility, with nowhere to lie down. Fortunately crossed fingers and the heading line on the satnav* kept me on line. The only other boats I saw all morning were Scout sailing boats capsizing in the blow and being rescued by their mothership.

I don't think a radar reflector is required on the Randmeren - but it would be a comforting thing to have on any large water.

*'Nautical Map' that replaced ANWB's Waterkaarten. Highly recommended on a tablet for anyone in NL.

A seasonal reminder:

I particularly liked the Google translated sentence:
If you are sailing on a waterway where radar is mandatory and you do not have it, you should look for the nearest suitable place to lie down as quickly as possible.

You don't need a barge to join - a dream of boating in Europe will do'. See www.barges.org
