TOPIC: Netherlands to the UK

Netherlands to the UK 15 May 2020 21:08 #115967

Through France is definitely a NO at the moment. You wouldn't get into Belgium this week!

Boris has just said that quarantine won't be required but 'self-isolation (if you can believe it).'. Which changes nothing! It depends entirely on how your potential skipper feels. I would just enjoy Ijmuiden for a few more weeks if you can! It's a nice area.

Hi Paul, I’m in the Netherlands trying to get to the UK.

I considered going down inland but with Belgium and France’s borders still being closed it’s a no go.

French exemption looks like a non starter - discrimination. Increasingly talk is of all UK bound travellers flying Flag Q.
Although car/eurotunnel is arguably quite safe.

Mary,
How about crossing to France instead? Then, if I’ve understood the regulations, your skipper can get back into England without risking quarantine.
If I were you I would cross to Dunquerque. Short trip to Veurne / Furnes. Then investigate carrying on to the Netherlands.
Good luck
Paul.

That's pretty reasonable! At the moment the UK is quite unclear who the quarantine might apply to, if anyone! It currently looks like air passengers only. I'm watching carefully as I'm returning to UK from BE by car ferry on May 30 and wondering whether to put an order in with Ocado for my food.. There's no word of private boats from Holland (I suspect it will never be clear!) but if I were Chris, I'd be careful, too. I suggest keeping in touch until he's comfortable with whatever rules apply..

Thanks Charles,

I’ve spoken to Chris and I thought he might do it but it turns out like the first skipper, he doesn’t want to travel during Covid and possibly be quarantined for 2 weeks after.

I think I’ll have to wait until after lockdown.

Hi all,
I’m a bit stuck. My skipper has changed his mind about taking me and my barge across to the UK during lockdown. I’m on my barge waiting to go from IJmuiden.

Does anyone know a skipper and mate wanting to work at the moment? I’m a bit desperate as I gave up my mooring in Zaandam, came to IJmuiden to have an insurance claim sorted, out of the shipyard now and wanting to go. I’ve been here 4 weeks tomorrow and really wanting to go home.

Any contact greatly appreciated.
