Your box is from the 71C or 72C family. Here is the owner's manual.

www.tadiesels.com/assets/docs/tech/Borg_Warner_71C-72C_&_V-Drive_Marine_Transmission_Owners_Manual_0001.pdf

See page 1. This lists an oil capacity of 1.9 litres for direct drive and 2.8 for units fitted with a reduction box (the extra round bit on the back end). I suspect that you have a reduction model. A 5 litre can of oil will suffice if you have the average form of oil cooler and might leave a little bit for topping up.

Hi All - we have a BW Velvet Drive Gear Box: Model 10-18-106 on Luca, connected to the DAF 575. I want to change the gear box oil and have looked at the manual but it doesn't give a volume - it being dependent on the cooling setup. Can anybody tell me approximately how much oil I should buy, to make sure I have enough? 1, 2, 5 litres of Dextron II or equivalent?
