6 May 2024. We have encountered a further shallow patch, likely to affect boats drawing over 1.20m, in the 300m immediately below the bottom gate of Hannapes lock 12 (Pk 25). The shallow patch appears to spread across and along much of that portion of the bief.

Canal de la Sambre à lOise - weed and shallows was created by Andrew Maxwell
3 May 2024 - on a move today between Landrecies (Pk 0) and Le Gard (Pk 18) in our 15m boat, drawing 1.25m, we encountered heavy weed in the bief above lock Ors 2 (Pk 5.7) over a distance of 1.5km. The weed was thick enough to reduce our speed by at least 2 kph. This weed petered out after Pk 7.5 and was completely clear after passing the Pont-levis de Catillon.
We encountered shallows for a distance of about 200m either side of Pk 1 where the La Riviérette joins the waterway and again for 300m around Pk 15.5 where La Sambre joins the canal. The latter was so shallow that we ploughed through the silt until the depth increased again just short of Pont d’Oisy (Pk 16).
