The reason will be in the Avis on the VNF web site.

Does anyone know whether the closure is water related, or normal maintenance?

Because of having to schedule our cruising time around work requirements we were planning on beginning our trip on the CdC around the third of April. Just wondering what the chances are of it reopening on time?

Alan, under the list of chomages they say that navigation on the CdC will be interrupted from 27 Jan to 22 Marc in Section 606 wherever that is.

I have heard via other Piper Owners of an imminent closure of the C du Centre - is that a temporary closure?

Reservoir levels are better than last year due mainly to a very wet December.

Since 5th January there has been no decent rainfall in Burgundy. The Saone and Doubs are flowing slowly. Little snow in the Jura.

Unless February and March see either snow or decent rainfall, I'm afraid it's too early for celebration.

This thread started a couple of days before I was going to give an update. I'll be watching the actual weather over the next couple of months.

I pointed you to a pdf file this morning, but if you want to regularly follow the water level the web page may be better :

Thanks Olivier. The last 3 or 4 years have been very bad, so the average even over 10 years may be less than ideal for reliable cruising. Still there are currently 3 that are lower than the 10 year average and 5 out of 11 (I hadn't noticed the Midi one) that are less than half full. It would be interesting to see the January figures for the last 3 or 4 individual years We can live in hope that all will be well this year.

Thanks for the VNF link. If my reading is right, there are still several reservoirs that are far from full and some that are currently lower than this time last year. Please correct me if wrong:

Significantly lower than this time last year - Gondrexange, Mittersheim, Bouzey

Others that are far from full - Champagney, Charmes Leiz, Grobois, Bourdon

7 out of 10 that don't look great, though it could be that these reservoirs don't need to hold anything near full capacity for keeping the system going all season, but it doesn't look all that rosy at present. There's still a lot of winter and spring to go yet, so hopefully all OK.

My own translation/explanation is.....
The deficit for 2019 therefore seems to be filled at the reserve level.
Or
The low levels experienced in 2019 have now been reversed and are at the reserve level.

Can anyone tell me the English translation for " Le décit de l’année 2019 semble donc être comblé au niveau des réserves. "? Google translate renders only gibberish.

Overall, the water state is much better than last year.

Thinking ahead; what has happened in the past 4 months in terms of water? Rains, snows? Has there been any predictions about the state of the canals in 2020? Seen some stories about some floods in some areas but in general how is 2020 shaping up?
