TOPIC: Belgian (Flanders) Vignette

Belgian (Flanders) Vignette 31 Jan 2020 17:02 #113375

PS - Local advice is to delay buying a vignette until late March. There may be a vociferous protest about the increase in charges, which might result in a discount, as happened last time a large increase was announced.

www.visuris.be/Waterwegenvergunning now announces

The waterway vignette will disappear and will be replaced from 1 April 2020 by a new, digital 'waterway permit'. The Vlaamse Waterweg nv chose this to meet the demand of pleasure boaters and water sports enthusiasts for a more flexible system, whereby the waterway user does not have to choose between vignettes of different periods (and therefore often has to pay for more days than he actually is on the network). from De Vlaamse Waterweg nv). A waterway permit can be applied for for a day, a few days or months, or for a year. So you choose the start day of your waterway permit and how long it is valid for. This flexibility is not only a great advantage for the trailerable boats, this also offers greater freedom to the
(foreign) visitors when planning their sailing holiday on the Flemish waterways.

The new waterway permit becomes a digital permit . After all, Vlaamse Waterweg nv strives for 'paperless sailing'. This is not only good for the environment; it is also more efficient and better for the vessels (no more stickers!).

The cost is calculated on a rate per day and the length of the boat, with various daily rates . It is shown on the website (currently only in Dutch) once you register, login and enter your details, much like the French system.

The system currently reports Service inaccessible. Please try again later. after entering your ship's details!

Thanks to Liza and Tom, we have a quick calculator for download from the DBA Library to estimate your vignette charge.. The cost seems to have risen dramatically.

Pete, with thanks to L&T.

It's Belgium! If they are not being issued, you cannot be expected to have one. The inspection patrols normally only start in March/April when the 2019 permits have expired.
