TOPIC: Insurance for US-registered vessels

Insurance for US-registered vessels 06 Mar 2020 18:52 #114242

Hi Steve,
We have a USCG registered boat and are Americans living in America when not in France on our boat. We have a friend who is an insurance agent do a bunch of searching and he eventually connected us to BlueWater Yacht Insurance in Florida who have agreed to cover us for a year. Seems like a decent policy,They want a survey but are content with an in water one since we were just out of the water last fall. More expensive than GJW but the latter were a particular bargain, I think. PM me if you need contact info for BlueWater. We have friends who got a policy through Yachtline. I think with USA carriers it helps if you can talk to a person rather than just go through the on line process, which will not be set up for our sort of cruising.

Steve,

There has been a lot of traffic on the subject of barge insurance on the forum in recent times. Indeed since you posted there in the middle of last year. I suggest you do a search.

Also the KnowledgeBase has pertinent information. Try it.

You may find EOC Verzekeringsadvies BV can help as they do for me, though, as an agent not an insurer. They, in turn go to DNA, also an agent, who now organise the insurance of our ship. So, you might decide to try DNA direct since you don't have an allegiance to EOC as I do. Contact details are in the Suppliers Directory under the KnowledgeBase tab above here.

Best wishes,

Bob

We are finding it very difficult to secure insurance coverage for our US-registered barge. We insured through MS-Amlin for many years but they are no longer covering Americans. We have heard from a number of insurers and brokers that there are difficulties with US craft and especially US owners -- a double whammy! Has anyone else surmounted this difficulty?
