Nor do I Bob given a) we're in lockdown in OZ and b) in theory I can't sign up because the VNF site is STILL not available here (and presumably most of the RoW).

Well done to Pete for that, Ian, and your icing will come with the Avis à la Batellerie. Maybe you could post that when it arrives, Ian, as I do not subscribe to Avis nowadays.

Best wishes,

Bob

The Canal de Calais, which does not receive a great deal of traffic, is being put on the service standard 'On Demand' meaning anyone wanting to travel on that canal must call at least a day ahead to make arrangements with VNF. The following message from Olivier Matrat make this clear and, as it says, an Avis à la Batellerie will be issued shortly.

English translation follows...

Madame, Monsieur

In English:

Dear Sir or Madam

VNF is adapting its service offer on the Nord-Pas de Calais network.

On the canal de Calais , from 16 August, navigation will be on demand.
From this date, the opening hours of the movable bridges and the Hennuin lock will be: 8.30am-12.30pm / 1.30pm-5.30pm, from Monday to Sunday, with prior reservation.
Reservations must be made the day before before 3pm, for a passage from Tuesday to Saturday, and on Friday before 3pm, for Sunday and Monday.

Navigation conditions remain unchanged on all other routes of the Nord-Pas de Calais network.

This change in the service offer will be made public in the next few days by means of a notice to skippers.

The companies concerned by loading/unloading on the canal de Calais will be contacted directly.
VNF will work with them to organise the continuity of their transport lines in a concerted planning process.

I would be grateful if you could inform the establishment of any particular situation that you consider useful to report.

Yours sincerely
