Hello William,

I agree with you - I have e-mailed the EA Harbourmaster asking her to explain.

Maybe I missed the communication on EA lock moorings, but we tried to stay overnight at Bovney lock and were told by the lock keeper today that the lock mooring was closed, subject to review on 17th May.

Reading the recent memo on District Enforcement mooring management, there is some indication that it’ should be business as usual at lock moorings:
“ Please note that existing arrangements for short stay moorings at our locks, which are managed by lock and weir keepers, remain the same.“

Has anyone else seen any guidance on lock moorings being closed currently?

Thanks,
William

I think this is a win!

Requirement to register on arrival dropped - only need to contact DE if you want to pay £5 a day to stay for two extra days.

Note - no-one should have paid anything to DE yet - please advise if you did - you are due a refund!

PS It is Version 1 April 2021 - not as April Fool!

A reminder that the District Enforcement mooring management of EA short stay moorings begins today on the Thames.

I am still waiting for the EA response to my request for an internal review of their FOI response - which redacted nearly everything on the grounds of commercial confidentiality.

RYA are still awaiting the EA response to their follow up legal questions.

I have attached a notice to members of Thames organisations with respect to the new EA District Enforcement (DE) contract.

I would add that it is vital to keep some record of your report on arrival as the DE website does not provide any response such as an email. You might consider telephoning their answerphone number and asking for a call back as your phone record would at least provide evidence of compliance. You could offer to pay when they respond.

There are reports of DE already checking moorings covered by the new contract. I would welcome reports of checks and enforcement.

The legality of the entire scheme is still being challenged but in the interim if you are using one of these moorings you might want to comply rather than have to argue later! Boating is supposed to be fun!
