To Sunday 09 June 2013
The DBA Dijon Rally June 6th to 9th 2013.
We have had a great response and have 26 rally entrants, as many as we can find room for.
However, if folk wish to try and attend we will be delighted to take their names and will fit them in if we can, if other folk drop out.
The reason for having a Middle France DBA Dijon Rally is primarily to raise the awareness of members and locals about the Bourgogne Canal, and probably double the amount of traffic during that June period, we will also have a good time.
The VNF have agreed to permit us to use 300 metres of their quay opposite the port de plaisance in the centre of Dijon for that period and will be happy to receive DBA vessels a few days before and allow them to stay a day or two after the Rally has taken place. They have agreed to waive any mooring charges for the duration of the Rally. We anticipate being able to provide berthing for circa 25/28 DBA vessels at the site.
Vessels arriving at Dijon may well be asked to stagger their arrival from either direction, up from St Jean de Losne or down from the north via the tunnel at Pouilly en Auxois. There may be some air draft issues with the tunnel for the larger vessels; coming from the south may prove to be a better option for some.
For those not familiar with the Dijon area, there is plenty to do, there are myriad well known vine yards within easy reach, a few worthwhile chateaux in the local area worthy of a visit and plenty of City walking tours available with English and French speaking guides.
We aim to have a meet and greet party on Thursday 6th evening, the ladies will be offered the option of a gathering of their own before the meet and greet, the gentlemen joining them later. Trips and vine yard visits can be arranged on the Friday 7th June if the interest is there for exploration. A symposium/ short conference on barging matters on Saturday 8th morning and a Team Meal of some kind towards the end of the Rally, probably Sunday evening 9th June, we are working on the overall budget at present.
Those boats/barges with rowing tenders would be well advised to bring them, there will be rowing races available for the adventurous. A weekend long Boules ladder competition and the best barge old and new competitions, as well as a photography competition, in fact all the usual suspects in the way of competitions.
