We travelled down the Bras de Marly on 29th June intending to use the Bougival locks to rejoin the main channel. We knew, from VNF Avis on the Navi app, that lock 2 had been closed since 2015 and that lock 1 is closed, undergoing work, between 7 June and 1 September this year. Lock 3 was shown as being in operation on Navi.
We arrived at the lock, after the opening time, to see one red light showing on the lock lights. We could see that the workmen on lock 1 were pumping water continuously from that lock into lock 3. Lock 3 appeared disused (a lifebuoy floating in the full lock and what looked like a gangway stretching from one side down into the water) and part of the worksite for lock 1.
We were unable to gain any information from those working on lock 1 or to contact the VNF by vhf or telephone to find out whether lock 3 was working. If you are planning to go south on the Bras de Marly between now and 2 September you may wish to check the position before entering the northern end of the Bras de Marly.
