Upper Rhine closed to inland shipping due to floodingFollowing heavy rainfall, Germany's most important waterway, the Rhine, is partially closed to shipping. "The water levels have exceeded critical levels here," said a spokesman for the Waterways and Shipping Authority (WSA). The regions affected include Maxau near Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Worms . According to the WSA, the Middle Rhine - i.e. the area roughly between Mainz and Bonn - will be closed on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Floods in southern Germany. was created by Tim Cahill-O'Brien
A once in a century flood is taking place in Southern Germany in the provinces of Baden Wurttemberg and Bavaria.  I think these areas drain into the Danube and Rhine and am anticipating the increased flow to make it to the Netherlands in the next few days.  May was the wettest on record in much of the Netherlands and the levels here in Friesland are pretty full already.  We were planning on doing the Ijssel and the Rhine Mass Canal to get to the Mass and head south towards Belgium but wil now route west and travel down the Vecht and ARC instead.  I am thinking that the Mass should not be impacted much by this flood.  I know many of you are on these waterways at the moment.  What are your thoughts?  I cannot see any warnings on the Waterdata site yet except the forecast is for increased flow and the levels on the Rhine at Kaub ar estull fairly normal but the talk on some of the dutch boards are for 8km current on the Ijssel at the top end so am going to avoid that.
