VNF released another Avis about the Yonne yesterday - image attached. Further clarification from VNF confirms that there will be another Avis coming out with more information but essentially the Yonne from La Chainette - Villeneuve will be open for cruising on demand from 13/10/24 then shut from 28/10/24.

I’ve not heard anything back from any subsequent meeting, I’m afraid - Mike at Aquarelle in Auxerre is my source and he usually attends but I know he’s off on holiday tomorrow - I’ll try and catch him today to find out. As we know it’s closed until 27th October on that Etigny stretch already. I believe navigation ceases on the Yonne soon after for winter.

Hi Judy

Perhaps the word that confounded Mike was clapet (=flap)

Update on the situation on the Yonne between Villeneuve and Sens:

Further meeting held 22nd August. Reported that sufficient rain had fallen for VNF to believe they can maintain the 1m/1.2m depths as per the two recent AVIS notices (attached for info) until the end of this month. A further meeting will be held at the beginning of September (presumably 02/09).

As I believe the barrage is the traditional type with aiguilles ( long wooden fingers) the damage may be to the place where these meet and sit against.  Hence the need to evacuate the bief.

Tam, yes I think that’s what Mike was trying to describe 😆 Or maybe some sort of opening/closing mechanism on the weirs themselves? As you say, makes no difference to the outcome unfortunately 😏

5 ??? damaged and need replacing.

The exact translation is probably irrelevant, as the river is closed whatever they are, but the nearest I can come up with is 'flaps' - possibly something like the paddle gear in lock gates?

Here’s a brief summary of today’s VNF meeting. Apologies for the ??? - Mike at Aquarelle couldn’t think what the English word is and he said “clappe” but I can’t find that in French 😆

“Barrage badly damaged.
Only 1m depth can be maintained.
When it falls below that navigation will be stopped and repairs will start then.
VNF expect to close by next week as no rain in forecasts.
Repairs could be done in 10 days to 2 weeks, based on current assessment of damage that can be seen. However won’t know if foundations below water are also damaged until weirs emptied.
VNF were asked if reserves elsewhere could be used to maintain flow but VNF said no, would have minimal effect in reality.
Hopefully by Sept should all be okay, provided no damage not yet visible.
Another meeting to be held 22nd August.
5 ??? damaged and need replacing.
Can’t stop flow of Yonne to Seine because of the Olympics.”

Yonne - imminent closure to navigation was created by Judy Evans
Anyone in France and planning to fare on the Yonne between PK 50 and PK 60 (between Sens and Villeneuve-sur-Yonne) needs to be aware of the attached AVIS and the additional translated information below from the regional centre. Users are advised to make this passage as soon as possible and not leave it until the end of the season (26/10/2024):“Ladies and Gentlemen, waterway users,
We inform you of the occurrence of damage to the dam
of Etigny following the multiple increases in flow rates in recent
month.  Increases in the dam pass suffered damage
 irreversible.
Work is essential and requires implementation
free flow of the Etigny and Rosoy reaches, incompatible with the
 maintaining navigation.
Thus, if the flow at Joigny (Vigicrues station) passes sustainably
below 60m3/s, we will no longer be able to maintain the level
of water in the Etigny reach above 1m of anchorage, with
resulting in a cessation of navigation.
We therefore invite users who planned to cross this
sector by the end of the navigation season (10/26/2024), at
 do as quickly as possible.
A notice to the skipper will be issued in this regard.
The subject will of course be raised this Thursday 08/08, during the
 Navig’info.
NavigInfo: August 8 at 10:30 a.m. (connection link: Join the meeting
 now [1])
 Remaining at your disposal,
 Sincerely
 Center-Burgundy Territorial Directorate
