>the chaland (bark) was on auto pilot....

Interesting. I've often thought that commercials on the 3000T waterways are on auto pilot. Their behaviour is not of a manually driven ship and they don't deviate from the channel centre line.
I hope the skipper loses his licence and is demoted to deck hand.

It's not the destination, it's the glory of the ride.

Hi all

Marin Antilope posted on vie fluviale it appears a report on the incident is now available; 7 Feb, time shows as 07:34 (?WST Oz)
the chaland (bark) was on auto pilot  and hit the gates at 12.2 km per hour hence perforating the gates. No drugs or alcohol involved and the boat was otherwise in good shape. www.lessentiel.lu/fr/story/mueden-le-cargo-qui-a-percute-l-ecluse-etait-en-pilote-automatique-103275380

It appears to be quoting www.lessentiel.lu/fr/story/mueden-le-cargo-qui-a-percute-l-ecluse-etait-en-pilote-automatique-103275380
which in turn indicated the information was from the German Press Agency (dpa).
