building was severely damaged in mid-March by three successive arson attacks. Thanks to intensive efforts by the various stakeholders—Voies Navigables de France, which manages the Canal du Midi, as well as the Aude Prefecture and the Trèbes Town Hall—the demolition was able to begin in record time. The lower part of the flour mill has already been dismantled. The upper part of the mill (tower) will be dismantled starting next week, for a period of approximately two weeks.
Navigation, suspended to avoid any risk to users until the building is completely demolished, is expected to resume no later than mid-May, barring exceptional construction hazards. With the exception of the passage through the Trèbes lock, the entire Canal du Midi, as well as the Jonction and Robine canals, are navigable, and tourism professionals are now welcoming the first tourists of the season. The reopening date of the Trèbes lock will be specified as construction progresses.
